Instagram with Intention

Using social media to grow your business

Instagram is one of the most popular and fastest growing platforms out there. It has a beautiful aesthetic and creates a rather positive space for creatives to grow and thrive in their business. I find it to be one of the largest tools in my business today.

A few tips on how to have Instagram help grow your business.

•curating content

What you post can greatly affect whom chooses to follow you. Having an overall feel to your images is very important. Think of it as a blog roll. Keeping your images consistent in color, spreading out your black and whites. Whatever your business is be certain that you are mixing up a little bit of everything in your images, keeping them interesting and colorful.

Engage with your followers. Leaving positive comments and always be encouraging. Leaving chance for feedback and having conversation.

•time of day

Keep people interested. I suggest posting first thing in the morning and then around lunch time and shortly after supper. Just think to yourself, when do YOU check your posts? Given your target market that's likely when you should post yours too. I would say 2-3 times a day I think is ideal but everyone has their own opinion on that. I would for sure do at least one post a day to keep your viewers active; however, 9 posts in a day could be a bit over kill.

These are a great way to increase reach and attract new potential followers. However, use these sparingly and don't over do it. Feel free to mix them up with each post, this will keep your traffic fresh.

•Instagram stories

This is a huge tool for engaging with your followers. Allowing for some real and less white picket fence content. You can make this mainly what you'd like it to be but remember to choose your words wisely and be kind. There are many tools within the stories like location, fun stickers, filters and, my newest fav, the polls, which can really help with business growth getting exact answers you may need.

•Direct Messaging

This is an incredible way to engage with your online group of friends. It's also another way of collecting bookings and new information. Think of it as Instagram texting. Pretty slick if ya ask me.

As much as I adore this new way of technology it can be very consuming. Remember to set your phone down and be present with those loved ones around you. There's a time and place for everything. HAVE FUN AND BE KIND TO OTHERS.
